blankfaze: WikiPensacola

I apologise in advance if something like this is prohibited; feel free to delete if so.

If any of you are familiar with the wiki concept/Wikipedia, I have started a wiki devoted to everything Pensacola at http://www.wikipensacola.com. It's pretty barebones right now but I would love it if others would contribute. Anything goes! Restaurants, parks, stores, places, bands, area landmarks, history, anything you can think of.

Thanks.

Hooray. I'm Seth, 19, pansexual and transgendered. I love the idea of this community (never thought I'd find one for Pensacola...), foreign music and I'm a body modification enthusiast.

So, for some reason I was messing around on LJ's interest thing, and found this community. I was sort of interested, because I'm pretty new to anything and everything going on in Pensacola, so I joined.

But we're so dead!

Anything interesting happening lately? Any good places to go? Anything? (I'm trying, give me a break.)

Don't know, just asking some questions trying to liven this place up, I guess.

I just started at PJC and haven't met many people, so hi to everyone out there!

gamefreecycle: Because everyone loves free stuff

Welcome to Geeklings and Nerdlets.

The main purpose of this group is to freecycle. "What is a freecycle?" you may ask. Let me explain it to you. Do you have old hardware, software, painting supplies, books (fiction, n on-fiction, and academic), or other random things lying around your house that you cannot get rid of? Well freecycling is giving it away. Basically, you post something that you want to give away or something you are interested in having. BAsically, people come pick up all your old junk that you want to give away. You are NOT permitted to try to sell things. I will have a seperate group for selling.

This is a virtual community for the computer nerds, book worms, comic book nerds, D&D freaks, The RPG obsessed, the people who thinks that life is just a realistic MMORPG. It is for math, music, science, movie, gaming, and every other geek in between.

This is a place where you do not have to question, "Is my geek showing?" It's okay, release your inner geek!

I am a 20 year old bisexual female from the state of Indiana in the United States. I receive newletters from the Human Rights Campaign and was recently informed of a bill introduced to the U.S. Congress that would repeal the "don't ask, don't tell" policy currently enforced among homosexuals in the United States Military. Basically, any known homosexual will be prevented from joining the military or discharged from the military simply because they are gay. This new bill, called the Military Readiness Enhancement Act, would do away with "don't ask, don't tell" and institute complete tolerance of homosexuals in the military.

I wrote to my state representative, voicing my opinion on the bill, and asking him to support it. My request was denied. Apparently, my congressman believes that "homosexual activity is prejudicial to the good order and discipline of the armed services. For that reason, [he] oppose[s] any efforts that would allow known homosexuals to enter into or continue service in the military."

Now, I'm not a naive person, and I did not expect miracles. But I do believe that this world is gradually changing. As homosexual, bisexual, and transgender people are being more open about their sexuality, we are starting to be accepted for who and what we are. Change will not happen in a day... it may not even happen in a decade.

However, we need to let our voices be heard now, so that we can start changing the future one person at a time. For this reason, I'm asking you, whoever you are, wherever you're from, and whatever your sexuality is, to write to the United States Congress in support of this bill. It may not be passed and made into law, but at least we will let the U.S. government know that gay, bi, and transgender people everywhere are willing to stand up for their rights.

If you've gotten this far, thank you for reading, and please show your support for all homosexuals in the military by writing a letter today.
